About Us
JLO Chinchillas is owned and operated by Jessica Olson.
I have been breeding chinchillas since 2013, but have owned chinchillas since 2004. After owning chinchillas for many years, I discovered chinchilla shows in 2012 and attended my first show with Mutation Chinchilla Breeders Association. I took my pets with me to be evaluated and everyone was so kind and helpful that I decided to start my journey into chinchilla breeding. I showed my black velvet girl, Trinity, who came from a breeder in Florida. I was shocked and excited when Trinity placed Champion female of show! She was edged out for Grand Show Champion and Reserve Grand Show Champion by the two exceptional males being shown. Since starting my breeding program, I chose my focus color to be pink white and mosaic chinchillas. At the 2012 show, I was helped greatly by Jerry and JoAnne Craner of Craner Family Chinchillas. I asked if I could purchase a male from them that might compliment Trinity and ended up purchasing my herd foundation male, Pebbles, a mosaic male from them at that show. The next year, I was lucky enough to win the live animal raffle at the next show! The animal from the raffle ended up being my foundation beige female, Sweetie. In December of 2018, at the ECBC Northwestern branch, I showed Sweetie and Pebbles' twin pink white boys. They ended up taking Class Champion and Reserve Class Champion pink whites! I was ecstatic to see two males from my breeding program take prestigious awards at my local show. I have decided to keep the Class Champion pink white male, Biscuit, and plan to have him continue his parents' legacy with some exceptional standard females. I was also very excited to take 1st place Junior Breeder Award at the show due to the consistent high placings of each of my animals. My herd is still small, but I currently have about 10 breeding animals. My future goals for the herd are to continue to produce top award winning animals that are healthy and high quality animals. |
